The Beautiful Oakland: Civic Tech Idea-A-Thon is a focused, energizing half-day event that brings Oakland residents, students, technologists, and city officials together to generate fresh ideas for tackling illegal dumping and improving the physical environment in Oakland.

This is one of two OpenOakland events we are hosting as part of Oakland Tech Week. Later the same evening, join us for AI in the Public Interest: Oakland Civic Projects in Action.

  • When: Tuesday, September 29, 1:00-5:00pm
  • Where: Mills College at Northeastern University, 5000 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland

What to expect

  • 1:00-1:15pm - Welcome
  • 1:15-2:00pm - Expert panel featuring government and community leaders
  • 2:00-4:00pm - Design thinking workshop, with individual idea generation, small group sharing, and presentations

Top ideas are documented as canvases for potential future development, whether that becomes a class project, a policy conversation, a pilot, or a hackathon.

You don’t need a technical background to take part. If you care about how Oakland looks and feels day to day, you have something to contribute.
